FAQ

Who We Are

Who is Breckenridge Insurance?

Breckenridge Insurance is a US-based Wholesale Broker, MGA, and Program Administrator. We partner with and distribute top-rated carrier solutions to independent retail agents and select wholesalers, spanning a variety of coverage lines and industries, by way of a team of expert brokerage, binding and programs professionals. We are not a carrier.

Where do you have offices?

We have a few physical offices across the country, but many of our team members work remotely and travel to clients and industry events routinely. For offices and senior team members’ locations, please click here.

How long have you been in operation?

We have been formally operating as Breckenridge since 2009. The brokerage and programs teams under the Breckenridge name have histories and carrier partnerships dating back to the early ’80s.

Commission and Production Expectations

What are the commission rates?

Commissions will vary by product. On average, agencies are paid between 10% to 12.5%.

Do you have production requirements?

There is no fixed dollar requirement. However, we look to partner with agents and brokers with emerging or existing accounts or books where we can be successful together over time. We will assess our account success regularly and look to see how we can continue to grow and serve our partners where we see continued mutual benefit.

Is there an account minimum?

Varied team members and programs may have minimums based on their carrier needs and resources required to serve the business best. We do offer several self-serve quote and quote & bind solutions for smaller and more straightforward risks.

How do I keep my appointment current?

All appointed agents will need to keep their insurance licenses and proof of E&O coverage current in the amount as required by your signed Producer Agreement. In addition, payments must be kept current with our accounting team to allow new quotes to be issued. If you have any questions, please reach out to moc.sikcerb@detnioppateg.

Available Products

What products are available with this contract?

Our contract allows access to all of our products. However, our brokerage and MGA division typically does not distribute to other wholesalers. Please explore our website for more information on our brokerage, binding and programs capabilities.

Where do you provide coverage?

Breckenridge Insurance is licensed to provide coverage in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Do you have Brokerage or Binding Authority Markets, or both?

Yes. We have transactional brokerage markets, as an MGA we have binding authority, and our programs operate with binding authority.

Do you have admitted or non-admitted products?

The vast majority of our products are placed with surplus lines carriers on a non-admitted basis. Our admitted products are related to Workers’ Compensation and Limited Professional Liability.

I have the same admitted markets. Why should I use yours?

The relationships we have often differ and allow for expedited or exclusive coverage and for binding authority not always available to retailers. We have direct relationships of significance due to our longevity in the space, volume, and underwriting expertise, all of which can facilitate the best possible outcomes or insights to help you win the business, especially in a challenging market.

If we are not set up to handle surplus lines taxes, can Breckenridge assist?

Unless there is an agreement with the agent, Breckenridge’s Corporate Compliance department files and remits surplus lines taxes, stamping fees and other miscellaneous fees to the various state tax authorities in accordance with state rules and regulations.

What is the renewal process?

Renewals are reviewed between 60 to 90 days based on the carrier and the account activity. Any additional info will be requested during this time frame. Agencies will receive renewal quotes within 30 days of effective date.

Are quotes available online?
